Developer Terms
Last updated /
FirstGen has no public API yet. These are the rules that will apply when one launches, so nobody is surprised.
What these terms cover
These terms are between Nexus Media LLC dba FirstGen ("FirstGen", "we", "us"), and anyone who connects software to the platform at app.firstgen.dev ("you"). They add to the Terms of Service (firstgen.dev/legal/terms) and the Acceptable Use Policy (firstgen.dev/legal/acceptable-use).
Today there's no public API, no webhooks and no API keys. Nothing on this page is live yet. When any of it launches, these terms apply to it, and we'll update this page first. Here's where things stand:
A public API for your site's content: Coming soon. Who it's for: Customers, and developers working for them.
Webhooks (for example, a new contact-form message): Coming soon. Who it's for: Customers who want messages in another tool.
Importing content in bulk: Coming soon. Who it's for: Customers moving from another site.
Partner and reseller accounts: Coming soon. Who it's for: Businesses that build sites for others.
Getting access and keeping keys safe
No keys are issued today. If someone offers you a FirstGen API key, it isn't from us.
When keys launch, they'll be issued to a named customer account, and we'll be able to limit and revoke them.
Keep every key private. Don't put it in client-side code, in a public repository, or in a URL. Tell us if you think one leaked.
You'll be responsible for everything done with your keys until you tell us they're compromised.
Your site's contact form
Every site we build comes with a contact form that's already wired up: messages are stored and emailed to you. There's no endpoint for sending messages from another form or tool today.
Don't post to your site's form from scripts or other sites. It's for real visitors.
Messages are checked by a spam trap.
If you want messages to arrive somewhere besides your email, tell us. That's on our list.
Sending form messages to another tool is coming soon.
Webhooks
There are no webhooks today. When they launch, a webhook will send events (like a new contact-form message) from your site to a URL you choose.
Each webhook will carry a signature so you can check it came from us.
You'll be able to turn a webhook off at any time from your dashboard.
We'll retry a failed delivery a limited number of times, then stop.
Don't point a webhook at a system you don't control.
Importing and exporting
There's no bulk import or export tool today. To change your content, use the chat in your dashboard. For a copy of your site's content or your contact-form messages, email support@firstgen.dev and we'll send it.
The API
There's no public API today. When one launches, it will let a customer, or a developer working for them, read and update their own site's content. It will only ever reach the account a key was issued for.
Every call will carry an API key in the Authorization header.
Calls will be rate-limited. The limits and the response format will be documented when it launches.
Changes made through the API will follow the same rules as the chat editor: content only, no code or layout.
Don't show one customer's data to another.
What you agree to
Use access only for a business you own or represent, or are working for with its permission.
Handle any visitor data you receive as the Data Processing Addendum (firstgen.dev/legal/dpa) requires of us: only for that business, protected, and deleted when they ask or when your access ends.
Don't use any endpoint to load-test, probe, scrape or reach data you weren't given.
Don't build something that pretends to be FirstGen or misstates where content comes from.
Comply with the law where you operate, including privacy and anti-spam law.
What we provide and its limits
Once launched, the endpoints will be provided as is. We'll work to keep them up, but they can be down for maintenance or reasons outside our control. We can change them. For a change that would break an integration, we'll email the key's owner at least 30 days ahead. For a security fix, we may change them right away and tell you after. We can suspend a key immediately if it's misused or puts a customer at risk, and we'll say why.
Whether API access will cost extra isn't decided. If it does, we'll say so before it launches, and nobody is charged for anything here today.
Ending access
Once keys exist, you'll be able to ask us to revoke one at any time. When a customer cancels, any keys and webhooks for their account stop working that day. Data already received stays with the customer's account under the Data Deletion page.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana. The dispute terms in the Terms of Service (firstgen.dev/legal/terms) apply. Nexus Media LLC dba FirstGen, 18948 Stonebluff Lane, Noblesville, IN 46062. Questions, or to hear when the API launches: support@firstgen.dev.
